I agree with you. I'm not trying to sound hateful towards the police or anyone who works in law enforcement, but you are right. The cops can't be everywhere at the same time. The city that I live in, the crime rate is higher than the national average yet we employ fewer cops than the national average. This means the bad guys have a better chance of getting away with their crime because there are not enough cops to deal with the crime rate that's already there. So you have to be able to fend for yourself somehow until the cops can show up.
Also, if the government tries to take away the 2nd Amendment then what will stop the government from taking away all our other rights? Nothing because if they take away your right to bear arms then you don't have any way to stop them from taking away anything else. And that makes you a victim and a slave, not a citizen.

I agree with you also. The criminals don't obey the laws we have now so what makes anyone think that they are going to obey any laws that are put into effect in the future. If you ban guns, the only people you are hurting are the law-abiding citizens because the criminals can (and will) still buy guns off the black market (or however else they are able to get them).
